Urhea-halli
Helsinki, Mäkelänrinne
Engineering firm Pohjatekniikka Oy was responsible for the excavation and foundation design in the URHEA-HALLI project and also carried out supervision of excavation, foundation, and construction works from 2018 to 2021.
The project was located between Mäkelänrinne swimming hall and sports high school. Below the site were Helsinki Region Environmental Services (HSY) tunnels. The earthwork and excavation at the site amounted to approximately 50,000 m3ktr. A notable feature of the project was the presence of an old, decommissioned train tunnel excavated into the rock and equipped with a concrete roof on the site, which was planned to be utilized as the end part of running tracks. The walls of the excavated tunnel had to be widened by sawing to accommodate the running tracks.
